Painting walls can be quite a challenging task if you are not sure how to start and what to do. There are several preparatory steps that are involved prior to starting or you might end up having to do double-work.
First you need to determine the type of paint you need. There are a few types of paints which you can use and which are catered for different types of surfaces. Make sure that you have selected the correct type of paint before starting out and check the prices among the different brands in the market.
Start with Scrapping Walls
– This is a step that is required if you are going to remove the current coat of paint on the wall before applying a new one. This step can be quite taxing because you will need to remove the old paint from the wall. Depending on the size of the wall, you will have to take several precautionary steps to ensure that you do not inhale the dust and debris from the process.
Prime Paint
– If you are painting the exterior walls, it is important to use a base paint for priming. This has a few benefits. First, it provides a protective layer on the wall. Secondly, it helps to create the first layer of paint (usually white in color) so that the color you are applying will be flat and evenly distributed.
Wall Painting
– When you are ready to start painting, ensure that you have covered the grounds with old newspapers or any other material. Remove the furniture or objects that can be obstructive and those that you do not wish to be stained and follow the guide to painting.
Bottle of Thinner
– Always have a bottle of thinner ready to wash away any paint stains on places that you do not want for instance on your skin or on kitchen cabinets. Do not use too much of this as it could be bad for the skin.
